This week I rode in a Waymo self-driving car for the first time.
How was It? AWESOME is the first word that comes to mind but more than that it was a special feeling being in a car without a driver. This is the future of riding cars so you have to try it.
When I came home I went to Google to learn a bit more about Waymo.
I’ve filmed a review of my first ride ( See above) .
Here are my top 7 things to know about Waymo:
Waymo is owned by Google’s and I do trust Google so I felt safe.
Inside the car you can connect your phone to listen to your jams on the go or you can listen to music you choose - because there’s a screen in the back with lots of music options.
Waymo has about 50 cars in LA and they are all Jaguar I-PACE electric vehicles .They are cool and comfortable cars.
If you want to ride in a Waymo there’s still a waitlist but if you are lucky you will be able to try it after a few months of waiting. My opinion: It’s totally worth the wait. Their website: https://waymo.com/
While they are a little offsetting at first it's easy to get used to the feeling of a no driver car. It is a little weird that there’s a steering wheel and it still is moving but no one’s moving it.
WAYMO’s website says that: “ 29 cameras integrated around the body of the vehicle, providing overlapping fields of view and the ability to see a stop sign 500 meters (1,640 feet) away”. Moreover, “high-dynamic range and thermal stability over automotive temperature ranges enable Waymo’s cameras to capture sharper images in tough driving environments.”
Waymo operates only in Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, Phoenix and soon will be in Austin Texas.
