Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Review

Updated: May 28

Hello buddies, today I’m writing a review of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes which I watched on its opening Night May 10th 2024 yet the theater in Hollywood seemed to me to be half empty which was strange for a movie that had so many billboards everywhere. That said, it was rad seeing a film on the day it opened in movie theaters and feeling like I was among the first kids to see the actual film and be able to share what I saw.

This is my first time seeing a Planet of the Apes film even though there were 10 movies in the series. The first one came out according to Wikipedia in 1968 so I guess this film series has been successful with many generations of movie goers. It's definitely a story that's hard to dislike

Since this was my first time seeing one of the Ape films - I’ll give my review only of the current one not related to any other in the series.

For those who haven’t seen any - I’ll summarize the storyline: the world is a post-apocalyptic world. Humanity is gone for the most part. Only old buildings where humans used to live are left. The world is ruled by Monkeys and people for the most part have become what Monkeys are today - animals living in small tribes that roam the land no different than Zebras.

That said, there’s a small group of humans that are still smart and they are looking for one another and the storyline is about a friendship between one woman looking for more intelligent humans that can think and speak and a chimpanzee fighting the evil dictatorship of a tribe of gorillas.

The woman and the Chimp manage to overcome their differences and become friends and work together to take down the dictatorship and save the world of all monkeys to allow all monkeys not just gorillas to be free.

I liked it but I didn’t love it. It was interesting to see a world where Apes rule the world and people for the most part are kind of dumb, they can’t talk and most of them still are like cavemen except for one woman named Mae who has not lost the ability to speak and think. i

Spoiler alert - there's a happy ending to the film ( Kind of). Mae returns to her tribe of intelligent humans - meaning - one day there will be an 11th movie in the series.

The Movie can be seen in IMAX and in 4DX but not in 3D - meaning no 3D glasses.

MOVIE RATING: 7.5 IN OUR BUDDY METER! NOT URGENT TO SEE BUT INTERESTING IF YOU HAPPEN TO SEE IT!
